One morning in Maine

One morning in Maine

It was my pleasure to spend my morning in Augusta at Maine’s State Capitol complex. I not only met a great bi-partisan group of state legislators, but also bumped into NPV’s own Chris Pearson. A member of National Popular Vote‘s board of directors, Pearson is a former one-term Vermont state representative. A Progressive Party...

Saving Maine from NPV

Saving Maine from NPV

Even my short stay in the Newark Airport was a reminder how different parts of America can be … well, different. New Jersey is distinct from Washington State and Massachusetts, the states on either end of my flights this morning. Think about just how vast and diverse is our nation, our United States. Smaller...

Hitting the road

Hitting the road

Last year, in addition to our educational activities in Washington State, Save Our States visited Nevada and was assisted allies in Oregon and Colorado as well. While NPV was signed into law in Washington, it stalled in the other three states as legislators began asking questions and constituents made their voices heard. So tomorrow...

Nutty Voting Helped NPV in Nutmeg State

Apparently the Connecticut legislature has a habit of bending the rules. For example: changing your vote after the tally has been taken. I thought a card laid was a card played; apparently not in the Nutmeg State. Historically, this practice rarely made the difference in whether a law passed or failed. But it did...

Thoughtful legislators reverse course on NPV

The Massachusetts bill to “reform” (i.e. effectively abolish) the Electoral College and replace it with a national popular vote passed both chambers in the last session but failed to make it to the governor’s office. Five states have passed the legislation. Yet a growing number of legislators are having a change of heart, including...

Ignoring the Will of Delaware Voters

The Delaware state house has just approved the NPV legislation.  This news story misses a critical point in its coverage: http://tinyurl.com/ldr3mg (scroll down to “Del. House OKs picking president by popular vote”). The article incorrectly states that the bill would “allow Delaware’s popular vote to determine the state’s choice for the president and vice...

RI Legislature Reverses Its Stance on NPV

Great news. The Rhode Island House last week declined to adopt the NPV legislation, despite approving it last year.  (Last year, both House and Senate approved the measure, but the Governor vetoed the bill.)   Last week’s House vote was 28 for and 45 against. Providence Journal story on NPV in Rhode Island

Connecticut update

There were two NPV/Koza bills introduced this year in the Connecticut General Assembly, HB05016 and HB06437. The latter of these is moving, and an amendment has been offered that would require the consent of Congress before it could take effect. The Connecticut Post calls the NPV/Koza scheme, “the wrong way” to change the presidential...

Why Save our States?

The genius of the United States of America: we are both United and States. The American system of states is Federalism. One part of it is the Electoral College, the state-by-state way we elect the President of the United States.

Some 'reformers' want to unravel our system of states. The Freedom Foundation’s Save Our States Project is dedicated to preserving these structures for the sake of liberty. Find out more and join us.
