The Electoral College: Interview on The Schilling Show

Tweet I recently had the opportunity to speak with Charlottesville, VA’s Rob Schilling on The Schilling Show. We covered topics like the difference between “democracy” and a “democratic republic”, why the Electoral College is a key component in preserving American liberty, and how NPV threatens to undo its benefits. You can listen here.

Ignoring the Will of Delaware Voters

Tweet The Delaware state house has just approved the NPV legislation.  This news story misses a critical point in its coverage: http://tinyurl.com/ldr3mg (scroll down to “Del. House OKs picking president by popular vote”). The article incorrectly states that the bill would “allow Delaware’s popular vote to determine the state’s choice for the president and...

RI Legislature Reverses Its Stance on NPV

Tweet Great news. The Rhode Island House last week declined to adopt the NPV legislation, despite approving it last year.  (Last year, both House and Senate approved the measure, but the Governor vetoed the bill.)   Last week’s House vote was 28 for and 45 against. Providence Journal story on NPV in Rhode Island

NPV/Koza Supporters Outnumbered in Nevada

Tweet This San Francisco Chronicle article does not tell the full story of today’s hearing in Nevada’s Senate Legislative Operations and Elections Committee. Koza/NPV supporters were completely outnumbered. Only two people testified in favor of the Koza scheme during the hearing. Five people testified against the scheme—more would have testified in opposition to AB...

Washington State

Tweet On the afternoon of Tuesday, April 28, Gov. Christine Gregoire signed SB 5599, making Washington the fifth state to join the National Popular Vote scheme. Washington enacts NPV

Tweet To the dismay of natives and neighbors, on Tuesday afternoon the state of Washington headed over the proverbial bridge, following Maryland, New Jersey, Hawaii, and Illinois into the Koza abyss. After barely making it out of the Senate before the cuttoff on March 12, SB 5599, “Approving the entry of Washington into the...

Former FEC Chairman Evaluates NPV

Tweet It is several months old, but a recent paper by Bradley A. Smith, former Chairman of the Federal Election Commission, is well worth reading: Vanity of Vanities: National Popular Vote and the Electoral College. Smith reviews “Every Vote Equal: A State-Based Plan for Electing the President by National Popular Vote,” the 600-page treatise...

Connecticut update

Tweet There were two NPV/Koza bills introduced this year in the Connecticut General Assembly, HB05016 and HB06437. The latter of these is moving, and an amendment has been offered that would require the consent of Congress before it could take effect. The Connecticut Post calls the NPV/Koza scheme, “the wrong way” to change the...

Why Save our States?

The genius of the United States of America: we are both United and States. The American system of states is Federalism. One part of it is the Electoral College, the state-by-state way we elect the President of the United States.

Some 'reformers' want to unravel our system of states. The Freedom Foundation’s Save Our States Project is dedicated to preserving these structures for the sake of liberty. Find out more and join us.
